September PV Dems Meeting Announcements and More

The Palos Verdes Democrats September 18 meeting began with announcements and a preview of the October and November meetings.

Connie Sullivan, PV Dems President, recognized the Los Angeles County Democratic Party (LACDP) endorsed candidates in the room:  Paul Seo, Rancho Palos Verdes (RPV) City Council Candidate and Harold Williams, West Basin Municipal Water District Board of Directors Div 1 Candidate.

01:50  Paul Seo, RPV City Council Candidate introduced himself and why he is running for RPV City Council.

03:16  Connie Sullivan presented the LACDP endorsed candidates in the South Bay.  All the LACDP endorsed candidates may be viewed in Jon Munoz’s Endorsements article.

05:24  The PV Dems Board voted to set aside a total of $3000 to donate to the following list of candidates for the November election.  Connie shared the specific amounts for each category of candidates the Club is supporting this November:

07:35  The dates and times for the October Peninsula Candidate Forums hosted by the League of Women Voters (LWV) Peninsula via Zoom are shown below.  The Zoom links may be found on the LWV website – https://www.lwvpalosverdes.org/

  • Monday, October 3, 7 – 8:30pm, Rolling Hills City Council
  • Thursday, October 6, 7 – 9pm, PVPUSD Board of Education
  • Tuesday, October 11, 7 – 8:30pm, Rancho Palos Verdes City Council

09:16  SAVE THE DATE – Monday, October 3, 2022, 11:30am, at the Miyako Hybrid Hotel, is the Palos Verdes Peninsula Chamber of Commerce ANNUAL LEGISLATIVE FORUM with Congressman Ted Lieu, State Senator Ben Allen, State Assembly Member Al Muratsuchi, and LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn.  Tickets can be purchased on the Palos Verdes Chamber of Commerce website.

11:58  To see your personalized ballot, check out the League of Women Voters Guide, votersedge.org or the California’s Official Voter Information Guide, voterguide.sos.ca.gov.  Lynn Bommer shared a unique get-out-the-vote tool from Field Team 6, BlueVoterGuide.org.  Once you enter your address, the web app enables you to build your ballot using endorsements from progressive organizaitons.  The web app is available now for the battleground states of California, Arizona, Florida, Nevada, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin on desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone.

12:56  Caryl Schwartz, PV Dems Activism Chair, created a list of things you can do that is now listed under our website’s From Our Activism Chair.  This will be an ongoing effort to keep people up-to-date on opportunities for making a difference and will be an ongoing featured article in our monthly newsletter.

16:45  SAVE THE DATE – Saturday, October 15, 2022, is the LACDP Franklin & Eleanor Roosevelt Awards 2022 honoring 46 Democrats of the year from our 23 Assembly Districts.  One of the two Pat Eastman Volunteer of the Year awards goes to our very own Connie Sullivan.  Read Dency Nelson’s article about this honor.

17:23  SAVE THE DATE – Sunday, October 9, 2022, 3pm, The Grand Annex Music Hall, is The Pennyroyal Players’ The Suffragette Musical:  From Battles to Ballots.  Read about it in the newsletter here.

18:20  Harold Williams, West Basin Municipal Water District Board of Directors Div 1, talked about the WBMWD’s rain barrel give away program and their Water Harvest program on Saturday, October 22, 10am – 2pm, at the Edward C. Little Water Recycling Facility.
