Rancho Palos Verdes Measure B Forum

At our June meeting, Unite Here Local 11 spokesperson Johan Breslau, representing local hotel and restaurant workers, discussed his union’s legal dispute against the Rancho Palos Verdes-based Terranea Hotel and Resort over wage and hour allegations and illegalities, as well as sexual misconduct issues.

On the Rancho Palos Verdes Municipal ballot on November 5, voters will have an opportunity to vote on Measure B.  This initiative proposes a City Ordinance that would add Chapter 5.40, Hospitality Working Conditions, to the City of Rancho Palos Verdes Municipal Code, and applies to “large hospitality employers,” being owners or operators of a hotel (50+ rooms), golf course, or amusement park, with 50+ hospitality employees (“Employers”).  If passed, the measure would provide wage and work condition protections for employees.

The League of Women Voters of Palos Verdes Peninsula will host a forum to help voters hear both sides of this issue.
