PVP Democrats Monthly Meeting
February 17, 2019 @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm
The PV Democrats will he holding out monthly meeting on Sunday, February 17 in the Community Room at the Peninsula Center Library. Please come early–we gather at 2 pm to socialize with like-minded democrats. Also, remember that the new parking ramp is now open (between the library and the Promenade) and the upper level is intended for library parking and provides access without stairs.
This month, we have three speakers:
-
In place of Sheriff Villanueva, Dr. John Paul Tabakian will speak on recent bills pertaining to higher education and tracking student success outcomes. Governor Gavin Newsom is beginning to push for accountability measures for Charter Schools and we think this sentiment will expand to public schools. Dr. Tabakian is the President of WestCal Academy®.
-
Jennifer King will talk about her re-election campaign for the Palos Verdes Estates City Council. Jennifer is currently completing her first term, and is competing with 6 other candidates for the 3 open seats. Jennifer is the only stated Democrat running in this race.
-
Major Brian Campbell of the California State Military Reserve (CA State Guard) will talk about the experiences of his particular unit, which is based at Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base, near Long Beach. The primary mission of the CSMR is to work closely with and support the California National Guard unit. This unit has been to Afghanistan this past fall and twice to East Africa in the past 12 months. Besides giving an overview of what the CA State Guard does here at home, Brian can also discuss and answer questions regarding current international events in these areas from a ground-level economic and foreign policy perspective.
Brian Campbell is a former Rancho Palos Verdes mayor, and is currently serving on the Palos Verdes Library District Board of Trustees.
