PVP Democrats Monthly Meeting
September 16 @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm
The PV Democrats will he holding out monthly meeting on September 16 in the Community Room at the Peninsula Center Library. Please come early–we gather at 2 pm to socialize with like-minded democrats. Also, remember that the new parking ramp is now open (between the library and the Promenade) and the upper level is intended for library parking and provides access without stairs.
Our September meeting will review the candidates for Superintendent of Public Instruction. Marshall Tuck (represented by Melanie Lunquist) is a former CEO of the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools (which runs 18 schools in Los Angeles) and a former President of the Green Dot Public schools (which operates 28 charter schools across three states).
Melanie Lundquist, a graduate of University of Southern California, is a founding member of the Board of the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools, past chair of the Advisory Board for Teach for America, and is co-chair of a $165 million capital campaign for the California Science Center. She also established the Cardiovascular Institute at Torrance Memorial Medical Center.
After thinking that Tony Thurmond had a conflict and would not be able to attend, we have been informed by his campaign that Tony will come to speak at our meeting, after all. Tony Thurmond, a State Assemblymember since 2014, has sponsored legislation including due process for immigrants, tobacco-free schools, subsidies for early childcare services for low-income families, and transfer of funds from the prison system to schools for truancy reduction programs.
Also, come meet Megan Crawford, a member of our club, a previous member of our Board of Trustees and the former club liaison to the LA County Democratic Party, and now a candidate for the PVP USD School Board.
