Clean Money supporters, activists, and volunteers like you helped us lead the nation last year by passing our Social Media DISCLOSE Act (AB 2188) right after our historic 2017 passage of the California DISCLOSE Act (AB 249)!

This year, together we’ve gotten our four Clean Money Democracy bills into their second house. Now’s the time to push them the rest of the way to the Governor’s desk — and we need you!

WHAT:  Clean Money Democracy Rally & Summit!
WHEN:  Sunday 8/11.  Doors Open 2pm.  Speakers & Rally 2:30pm-4:30pm.  Organizing 4:30pm-5:30pm.
WHERE:  Immanuel Presbyterian Church, Westminister Chapel.  Handicapped-accessible building.
HOW:  Limited free parking in church lot and on street.  Near Transit.  Carpools.  See RSVP!
COST:  Free to attend, and free light refreshments during the break.  Sponsor donations appreciated!

Special guest speakers include the author of SB 47 Petition DISCLOSE Act Senator Ben Allen, author of SB 636 Ballot DISCLOSE Act Senator Henry Stern, author of AB 1784Secure the VOTE Act Assemblymember Miguel Santiago, plus Senator Maria Elena Durazo.  Also speaking are leaders from coalition partners such as California Common Cause, California League of Conservation Voters, Money Out Voters In, Voices for Progress, and more!

Exciting Topics & Activities at 2019 Clean Money Democracy Rally & Summit
We’ll start with a big rally including remarks from the authors of SB 47, SB 636, and AB 1784, plus other inspirational speakers, and a discussion of the details of our powerful bills and the next steps for each.  If you can stay until 5:30pm, we’ll have training and planning sessions for our next big push!

• • SB 47 (Allen), the Petition DISCLOSE Act.  Currently, it’s legal for Big Money to buy a spot on the ballot for their initiatives while misleading voters about who’s paying to collect signatures.  SB 47 will stop this by requiring that initiative circulators show you the official list of who’s funding the effort — before you sign to put the initiative on the ballot.

• • SB 636 (Stern), the Ballot DISCLOSE Act.  Every election, Californians vote on ballot measures that greatly change daily life, yet they often don’t know key facts about them like who’s officially for and against.  SB 636 will make sure every voter sees this information that Californians want by printing a short list of official endorsers and official opponents next to each measure right on the ballot you use to vote.

• • AB 1784 (Santiago-Chiu-Gonzalez), the secure the VOTE Act.  Our elections are under attack and the 2017 DEF CON security convention was able to breach every voting system used in the United States!  AB 1784 will help address this and ensure every vote is counted accurately, plus save millions of dollars. It does this by funding publicly owned, transparent Open-Source Paper Ballot voting systems to replace the privately owned proprietary software from corporate vendors that are used now.

• • AB 1217 (Mullin), the Issue Ad DISCLOSE Act.  AB 1217 brings much needed disclosure to a type of political advertisement that Big Money can still anonymously use in California to try to sway the public and legislature — “issue lobbying ads” and sham issue ads.  AB 1217 will require these ads to list their top 3 funders just like ballot measure ads and independent expenditures already do, thanks to AB 249 & AB 2188.
