On January 6, 2021, a violent mob tried to subvert our democracy and prevent the peaceful transfer of power that is the heart of any thriving democracy. The Palos Verdes Democrats, along with the Beach Cities Democrats, the San Pedro Democrats, the Torrance Democrats, Indivisible South Bay Los Angeles, and Sister District South Bay LA joined together to sponsor a Stop the Big Lie Rally at the Trump National Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes.
Between 60 and 70 activists showed up to express concern that the events of that day, as well as everything that has happened in the subsequent 365 days represent a threat to our democracy. Connie Sullivan, Vice-President of the Palos Verdes Democrats spoke first, followed by Tony Hale from the Beach Cities Democrats, Susan Tucker from San Pedro Dems. Jimmy Gow, candidate for Torrance City Council and President of the Torrance Dems, Katharine Nyhus, Indivisible South Bay Los Angeles, and Pat Furey, Torrance Mayor followed.
The crowd stayed at the Founders Park for the bulk of the rally, but walked up to Palos Verdes Drive South to engage drivers going up and down the coast.
