Los Angles – California Democratic Party Chair Eric C. Bauman released the following statement in reaction to Donald Trump’s decision, announced by Jeff Sessions, to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and punt the issue to Congress:
“Donald Trump’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals is just his latest assault on common sense, common decency and the fundamentally American values of inclusion, opportunity and justice for all. Hiding behind his racist attorney general to make the announcement and then punting the issue to Congress also makes this the most cowardly decision of this petty man.
This is a spiteful and hurtful decision that will result in enormous human suffering for our entire country, not just the ‘Americans-in-all-but-name’ who now face the threat of deportation and separation from their families. This is not who we are as a country, and California Democrats are and will remain united in our opposition to Trump’s assault on immigrants.
And even though this news will, by its very nature, cause much fear and confusion, I want to make one thing absolutely clear to the DREAMERS: keep pursuing your dreams despite the latest news from Washington. California Democrats will resist this shameful decision with every ounce of energy and resources available to us, and in 2018, we will elect leaders who respect and value undocumented Californians who grew up here, attended our schools, and who pledge allegiance to our flag.”
