The California senate recently passed SB 562, a bill by Ricardo Lara and Toni Adkins mandating a single payer healthcare system. The bill now goes to the assembly. This follows a similar bill approved by the New York assembly and headed for the senate.
While this is an important first step, the bill is faces an uncertain senate, and a skeptical Governor Brown. And, even if both steps pass, the system would require a Trump administration approval to re-direct ACA, Medicare, and Medicaid funds.
