TRAA Event for Environmental Protection and Public Health
February 17 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm
The Torrance Refinery Action Alliance (TRAA) is a local grassroots organization working to eliminate the massive use of a deadly chemical at two local refineries. Among the world’s most dangerous industrial chemicals, hydrogen fluoride (HF) is used in massive quantities in only two of California’s 15 refineries: the Torrance Refining Company (ToRC) and Valero in Wilmington — both located in the densely populated South Bay region of Southern California.
On February 18, 2015, an explosion rocked the Torrance Refinery, narrowly missing a potentially catastrophic rupture of a tank of HF. The TRAA is hosting an 8th anniversary event to recognize that event and to alert the public to the continued danger.
