The theme for this month’s meeting is Get Activated: How You Can Make A Difference
Each of our speakers will share how they became “activated” to make a difference. They are:
John Pickhaver, an El Segundo activist sparked by George Floyd’s murder, advocated to illuminate the water tower in rainbow colors for Pride month and ran for El Segundo City Council
Tanya Taylor, an early leader in El Segundo’s 2020 social justice movement produced the award-winning documentary Black in Mayberry and started the non-profit of the same name
Paul DiCarmine is PV dad raising two of PVPUSD’s youngest students. He and his wife are the founders of the Reasonable Parents of Palos Verdes, a non-partisan, grassroots group of PV parents, teachers, and school staff collaborating to ensure that PVPUSD policies are evidence-based and grounded in objective truth and reason. Reasonable Parents promotes rational discussion, civil dialog, evidence-based decision-making, and support and inclusion of all children.
Kylie Murdock, a proud alumna of the PV Public School system (graduating from PV High in 2016), became interested in politics after her first visit to Washington DC in high school. She went on to study Environmental Science and Policy at UC Berkeley where she continued getting involved in Dem politics and advocacy. After graduation, she moved to DC and began working at Third Way, a Democratic think tank. She’s currently a Special Advisor at Third Way where she works on their social policy and health care portfolios.
Kay Jue is a past president of the PV Dems and a past member of the state and LA County Democratic central committees. She also served two terms on the PV Library District Board of Trustees. In April, Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon reappointed her to the state Commission on Judicial Performance to serve a second, four-year term.
