Rep. Ted Lieu Looks Back on 2019

With multiple harmful policy decisions by Trump and Republicans, it’s hard to not miss things. In my own small way, I try to highlight the most important issues of the day in these emails, but it’s impossible to cover everything. That’s why today, I wanted to look back on some of the news stories that didn’t get enough attention in 2019:

  • The Trump administration rolled back major environmental regulations, jeopardizing protections for clean water, endangered species, and natural lands, while deregulating offshore drilling, methane emissions, and the fossil fuel industry.
  • For the first time in 25 years, the House of Representatives held a hearing on D.C. statehood, getting us that much closer to giving 700,000 Americans a voice in our democracy. Unfortunately, Republicans are blocking this action.
  • The Senate Intelligence Committee’s investigation of Russian meddling revealed that Russian hackers targeted election systems in all 50 states, and have the capacity to do so again in 2020. However, Republicans in the Senate are preventing votes on House bills that will improve election security.

This year, we’re going to be fighting battles on every front, from healthcare to the environment to national security.

We also need to hold the House, flip the Senate and take back the White House. Will you donate $250, $100, or $50 today so that we have the resources we need to win in 2020?

Best,
Ted
