Urgent National Day of Action: Beyond the Paris Accords and SoCal Climate Solutions

June 10, 2017 @ 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm

Last week, Trump announced that the US would exit the Paris Agreement. Since then, everyone from global leaders to US Mayors and Governors have reaffirmed their commitment to this historic climate deal, some even stepping up to go beyond. LA’s Mayor Garcetti, as a co-founder of the Climate Mayors advocates through his Sustainable City pLAn, which sets greenhouse gas emission reduction targets and pushes for a just and rapid transition to a clean, renewable, and efficient energy revolution, may not come fast enough.

Consider that implementation mechanisms of the Paris Accords are voluntary, insufficient, and impossible to monitor. And moreover, we face regional and local threats from the South Coast Air District approval of the largest refinery on the West Coast at Tesoro LA in the Harbor, the ongoing leaks at Aliso Canyon, and the violations of environmental justice with trading/selling cap and trade pollution credits.
On June 10th, cities across the US will mobilize to demand our elected officials #ActOnClimate. We will push for a 100% renewable energy future for LA and beyond and push back against fossil fuel infrastructure like the Tesoro expansion, Natural Gas storage facilities and proposed gas plants like the ones in El Segundo and Oxnard, the Dakota Access Pipeline, the Keystone XL.
Together, we have an opportunity to drive our collective outrage into local action, and show the world a unified national response to Trump’s dangerous decision to reject the Paris agreement.

The action we need from every elected official is clear: Side with Paris, and go beyond. Commit to a target of 100% renewable energy, without delay. Stop building new fossil fuel projects. Divest from coal, oil and gas companies.

Please RVSP so we can send you updates and last minute details.
