PVP Democrats Monthly Meeting

May 20, 2018 @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Come to our meeting at the Community Room of the main PV Library for a chance to meet our State Assemblyperson, Al Muratsuchi.  Make your voice heard by participating in the Q & A after his remarks.  Al is on a first name basis with many of our members, so by attending the meeting you can give him a chance to put a face to your voice.

Do we ever know enough about the judges we’re asked to vote on?  Judge Tom Long will discuss the candidates for these positions at the meeting as well, so come bring your friends to the meeting to educate them as well.

At our May 20th meeting, club members will be voting on the list of nominees for board positions for 2018-2019.  Please take a look at the list in the attached newsletter.  Profound thanks to Irene and Nancie Silver for all their recruiting work….your efforts are SO appreciated!  We still have an opening for Newsletter Editor (all you need to do is submit the monthly meeting write ups in a simple Word document to Ann Nye, Newsletter Designer, and ask others for write-ups on activities or books read that might be of interest to educate our membership, etc.  Ann does all the rest!).  We also have an opening for Hospitality (provide refreshments at our meetings and submit expense receipts to our Treasurer).  No experience needed for either position!  Can’t participate every month?  Other board members are great about substituting during vacations, illnesses, etc.  Participation as a board member is a great way to get involved in the political process as a whole.  Contact Lynn at labommer@gmail.com to volunteer or for more information (or just to connect with our club Prez…)

Also see the very important article regarding phone banks.  It’s just a bit over a month until the June Primary, and NOW is the time your efforts can pay off the most!  Participation in a phone bank is a great way to understand some of the strategies involved in campaigns.  You’ll be walked through the entire process….no experience needed for this activist activity either, and there are phone banks right up here on the Hill as well as some in Hermosa and Manhattan Beach.

Save the Date!  Our annual club picnic will once again be in the beautiful garden at St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church in RHE.  This is a wonderfully progressive church that provides this venue free of charge!   The picnic will take place on July 15 starting around 4pm (last year we noticed how shady the garden is at that later time, so decided to delay the start time a bit to avoid most of the heat).  In past years, almost all of our local politicians and many candidates have attended, so come rub shoulders with the likes of Janice Hahn, Ted Lieu, Nanette Barragan, Al Muratsuchi, Ben Allen and also local city officials.
