Did you know that 20% of California’s electricity use is consumed moving water from one place to another? So, it’s not surprising that the LA Times is reporting that Gov. Brown’s order to restrict water usage also resulted in a reduction in electricity consumption of just under 1 GW-hr, an amount of energy that would power 135,000 homes for a year.
The study by analysts at UC Davis found that this reduced electricity usage, and its corresponding reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, exceeded the energy savings by all the major investor-owned utility energy efficiency programs in the state at less than 1/3 the cost.
