Water Use Reduction Has a Side Benefit

Brown’s order to restrict water usage also resulted in a reduction in electricity consumption of just under 1 GW-hr, an amount of energy that would power 135,000 homes for a year.

The study by analysts at UC Davis found that this reduced electricity usage, and its corresponding reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, exceeded the energy savings by all the major investor-owned utility energy efficiency programs in the state at less than 1/3 the cost.
